Champions! City survive Brighton scare to seal Premier League title

MANCHESTER CITY ARE PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! Pep Guardiola’s men win 14 matches on the bounce to close out the season to beat Liverpool to the crown. It has been one of the most intense battles for the title in Premier League history, but City have edged their rivals by a single point. There were nerves this afternoon as the Reds put them under pressure by scoring an early goal against Wolves at Anfield. Glenn Murray then put Brighton and Hove Albion ahead to send the City bench into panic stations.

However, the response was emphatic as it has been all season. Sergio Aguero equalised immediately, slotting a strike through the legs of Mat Ryan. Aymeric Laporte then put his team in front in the game and the title race with a close-range header. Riyad Mahrez’s strike proved to be the vital one taking them out of the reach of the Seagulls before Ilkay Gundogan ensured that the crown was travelling to the Etihad Stadium with a sublime free-kick. It was a fine performance from City in the circumstances – proving that they are worthy champions, becoming the first side since Manchester United in 2009 to win back-to-back titles.
