Romelu Lukaku has said he was not angry with Paul Pogba for taking the late penalty which denied him an opportunity to score his first Manchester United hat-trick.

Lukaku had scored his brace and fourth goal of the week in the 88th minute against Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His second goal of the game sent United into fourth place, overtaking Arsenal who drew with Spurs in the north London derby earlier on.

The Belgium international had stepped up to take the injury-time penalty to clinch his debut hat-trick but watched on as Pogba saw his effort saved by Angus Gunn.
Lukaku told journalists after the game, ‘We knew we had to win the game today and did it. Not our best game but we have to be happy.
‘I am a striker. I wanted Paul Pogba to score the penalty, but he missed.

‘He has been an important player for us and will bounce back.
‘We have to look one game at a time and are working hard on the training ground. We are ready for the challenge.’
