Atiku votes in Adamawa, says, ‘My vote may not count’
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded Presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, voted in Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Adamawa State with expression of loss of faith in the electoral process.
He remarked that he is not confident that his vote will count.
Atiku who voted about 12.30 pm at his Ajiya Ward in Yola North Local Government Area, said turnout of voters was evidently loss of faith in the electoral process by the people.
“The elections of two weeks ago were marred by irregularities. Suddenly, I’m not convinced that my vote will count. You can see a very low voter turnout,” Atiku said.
Atiku urged his supporters to keep faith with him, even as he asserted that the electoral process had no faith.
He offered however that the situation could be rectified, saying, “It requires the coming together of all Nigerians and the leadership to be able to redress all the challenges we face in the last elections.”
He stressed that he was optimistic of a better Nigeria. “I have always been optimistic,” he said.
Atiku had arrived his polling unit minutes earlier to shouts of ‘Never give up’ from his admirers who stormed the polling unit to give him support.
By urging him not to give up, the supporters were apparently referring to his loss of the presidential race penultimate Saturday and his resort to legal redress.
As he made to leave his polling unit sometime before 1 pm, the supporters hailed, ‘Sai Waziri. Buhari Must Go.’
Atiku Abubakar holds the title of Waziri Adamawa, the second most prestigious traditional title in the Adamawa Emirate after the Lamido Adamawa.
