What Emiliano Sala’s family want – Marin scientist, Mearns
David Mearns, the marine scientist directing the search of missing Premier League star, Emiliano Sala, has disclosed that the player’s family knows he is dead but they want his body.
Recall that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) on Wednesday night confirmed that a body has been recovered from the wreckage of the plane that was carrying Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson.
Mearns, who found Sala’s plane wreckage, said both families have accepted that Sala and Ibbotson did not survived.
“These families know at this moment is that both [Sala and Ibbotson] died,” Mearns said in an interview with Argentine newspaper, Clarin.
“The most important thing is the body.
“Recovering the body is the most important for each of these families.
“The plane is a different matter and is related to determining the cause of the accident.
“But what these families know at this moment is that both [Sala and Ibbotson] died and what they want is to recover their bodies.”
Sala was flying from Nantes on January 21, to make his debut for Premier League team Cardiff City, when the plane disappeared over the English Channel.
The 28-year-old striker signed for Cardiff for a club-record fee of £15 million ($19.63 million).
He and the pilot are believed to have died as the single-engined Piper Malibu aircraft crashed.
