Calm in Lagos after polls postponement

There was calm in Lagos State on Saturday morning following the postponement of the presidential and the National Assembly elections .Our correspondent , who visited some parts of the state observed that a few vehicles and pedestrians were on the roads following the postponement which was announced in the early hours of Saturday .

Some of the residents , who spoke to our correspondent were shocked to hear that the elections had been postponed .

Our correspondent , who moved through Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway to Mobolaji BankAntony Road to MaryLand and Surulere observed that the few pedestrians on the roads were going about their normal businesses .

There was no visible presence of security men on the roads and some residents of the Surulere area of Lagos State were seen jogging to the National Stadium .

An Army patrol van was seen stationed at the roundabout after Teslim Balogun Stadium while the soldiers the van conveyed were seen sitting down to monitor the situation .

At the Ojota area , a resident , Mr Wale Oyewole , told our correspondent that he got the news of the postponement of the elections late and decided to use the opportunity of the postponement to visit some friends .

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State , Mr Tajudeen Balogun , also confirmed to tour correspondent that there was no report of any crisis in any part of the state as of 10 am

He said , “ We have been around but we have not seen any crisis . Our men have not reported any crisis and everywhere is calm . The information ( postponement) is straightforward and I don’ t think there can be any crisis but our men and other security agencies are around . ”
