INEC disclaim Obasanjo’s Allegations On Plan to Rig Upcoming Election
If you read our previous article “ Obasanjo accuses Buhari of attempting to rig the forthcoming elections” , you must have come across the several accusations made by Ex president, Obasanjo against buhari and INEC .
The allegations have ignited mixed reactions from Nigerians, even the electoral body itself, INEC , on Monday, January 21, reacted to it.
INEC disclaimed the allegations by Obasanjo saying it is not under any pressure to rig the 2019 elections as was claimed.
The Nation reports that INEC also assured Nigerians that its cooperation with security agencies will lead to a successful and peaceful voting experience for Nigerians.
The electoral umpire promised it would be transparent in the forthcoming elections.
According to the report, the chairman of
INEC , Mahmood Yakubu made the promise when he visited the acting-Inspecting General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, at the Force headquarters.
“This is to be expected in an election year when people make all sorts of insinuations but I want to tell you that we as a Commission have never been under any pressure to do what is wrong.
“We will never compromise our integrity to do what the law says that we shouldn’t and for the 2019 general elections, I want to assure and reassure Nigerians that votes and nothing but votes will count.
“With this level of cooperation from the security agencies, I want to assure you that Nigerians will have a pleasant voting experience in 2019,” he said.
