2019: FG to spend N1.02bn on unemployment survey, others

The Federal Government is planning to spend about N 1 . 02 bn to conduct twelve economic surveys through the National Bureau of Statistics in the 2019 fiscal period .
The amount is contained in the 2019 budget proposal which was submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly .

The 2019 budget has an estimate of N 8 . 83 tn made up of N 4 . 04 tn for recurrent expenditure, N 2 . 03 tn for capital expenditure and N 2 . 14 tn for debt servicing , among others .

An analysis of the budget showed that the N 1 . 02 bn is captured under the budget of the National Bureau of Statistics .

The total budget of the NBS is estimated at N 5 . 25 bn made up of N 1 . 02 bn for capital expenditure while the balance of N 4 . 23 tn is for recurrent expenditure.

A breakdown of the N 1 . 02 bn showed that the highest amount of N 373 . 2 m is being proposed to conduct job creation and labour force survey . The job creation survey measures the level of unemployment in the country .

This is followed by socioeconomic survey with N 121 . 45 m .

Further analysis of the budget showed that about N 63 . 7 m is budgeted for manufacturing sector survey while price statistics which measure inflation rate and trade statistics which measure the country ’ s volume of trade are to gulp N 52 . 5 m and N 15 m respectively .
Also , the Federal Government is proposing to spend N 50 m on National Accounts Statistics , while Sustainable Development Goals statistics is to gulp N 13 . 5 m .

In the same vein , the sum of N 7 . 4 m is to be spent on social statistics , solid minerals and mining survey N 81 . 12 m, creative industry survey N 96 . 23 m, and Nigeria Living Standard Survey N 20 . 3 m .

Also , the sum of N 21 m is being proposed for Information and Communications Technology survey while systems of administrative statistics and National Consultative Committee on Statistics have an allocation of N 100 . 45 m .

Meanwhile , the NBS will this year release about 179 reports covering various sectors of the Nigerian economy .

An analysis of the data release calendar of the NBS showed that about 47 different reports would be issued on various sectors of the economy in the first quarter of this year .

Some of them are the Consumer Price Index report, Capital Importation Report , Job Creation report, Pension Asset Report and Gross Domestic Product report , among others.

In the second quarter of this year , about 45 report covering various aspects of the economy would be released .

For the third quarter , the NBS will be releasing 47 various reports while the fourth quarter is expected to see the release of 40 different reports on the economy.
