Jesse Lingard sends classy message to former boss Jose Mourinho after sacking
The footballing world is still coming to terms with Manchester United sacking Jose Mourinho.
After the Red Devils’ dismal 3-1 loss away at bitter rivals Liverpool, Ed Woodward and the board felt the need to act.
United are currently 11 points off the top four, with a number of the club’s players – namely Paul Pogba – clearly not content with Mourinho’s regime.
According to the Mirror, only two players actually supported the manager when quizzed by Woodward, Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku.
It was a sad end for a manager who won two trophies in his first season with the club and then guided them to a second-place finish in 2017/18.
Given the toxic atmosphere in the dressing room and the lack of support from the board throughout the season, farewell messages for Mourinho haven’t been easy to come by.
On Tuesday, not a single player acknowledged his departure on social media.
However, Mourinho finally received some praise from one player, Jesse Lingard.
The English attacker took to Instagram to post a classy message to his former mentor.

Lingard wrote: “Thank you for the wisdom ??”
Fair play, Jesse. You can’t see Pogba, Luke Shaw or Alexis Sanchez following suit in the coming days.
Lingard was one of the few players under Mourinho’s rule who seemed to thrive and improve.
Before the Portuguese’s arrival, he was simply a fringe player, but he’s developed into one of the Red Devils’ most reliable forward options, scoring some crucial goals along the way.
Lingard celebrates vs Liverpool
During the World Cup, Lingard explained how Mourinho had been so pivotal to his career.
“[Mourinho] has been great with me,” Lingard said, per talkSPORT. “He’s put that trust and faith in me to play me in big matches week-in, week-out.
“It’s only up to me to repay that faith by playing well and putting on good performances. He’s played a massive part in my development and I can only thank him for that.”
