Glazers annoyed with ‘unacceptable’ Mourinho decision before his Man United sacking
Manchester United’s owners, the Glazers, were furious with Jose Mourinho’s decision to leave Paul Pogba on the bench in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, according to reports.
The loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side signalled the end of Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford as he was sacked on Tuesday following a brief meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at the club’s training ground.
Mourinho and Pogba clashed on several occasions during their time together, with the Portuguese calling the French World Cup winner a ‘virus’ in front of his teammates after the 2-2 draw with Southampton earlier this month.
Since that result, Pogba was named as a substitute by Mourinho for United’s following three Premier League fixtures.
But at Anfield, the 25-year-old was not even brought on in the second half and Mourinho admitted after the match that he had no plans to introduce the midfielder at any point during the game.

According to the Daily Record, the Glazers were upset with Mourinho’s treatment of Pogba and labelled his decision to leave the midfielder on the bench as ‘an unacceptable waste of resources’.
Woodward, meanwhile, attended United’s defeat at Anfield and television cameras caught him glaring in Mourinho’s direction during the closing stages of the match.
Following Mourinho’s sacking, Pogba was reportedly elated at the club’s training ground and was ordered by Michael Carrick to stop his celebrations.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as United’s interim manager for the remainder of the season and his first game will be against his former club Cardiff City on Saturday.
In his first interview with the club since taking charge, Solskjaer admitted that Pogba will be given a clean slate following his multiple bust-ups with Mourinho.
‘Of course, you look at a couple of the performances – I’ve seen the last few games – but you look at the team, you pick the team now and you move on,’ he said.
‘They’ll all get chances.’
