A 14-year-old goalkeeper has died a tragic death after colliding with another player on the pitch during a match.

Luca Campanaro was injured in a youth cup game in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, on Sunday.

The teenager, who played for Bedgrove Dynamos, was taken to a hospital but died yesterday.

A statement posted by Luca’s club Bedgrove Dynamos said: ‘We are deeply saddened to have to announce that a young player from the club sadly passed away this afternoon after being involved in a collision during a youth match on Sunday 9th December.

‘It goes without saying that everyone at the club is devastated by this news and we ask that the privacy of his family, the players and club members is respected at this incredible difficult time.

‘A decision on whether training and upcoming matches will go ahead this week/weekend will be made in due course and teams and players will be notified of this as soon as possible.’

A Justgiving page set up to help pay for Luca’s funeral costs added: ‘His organs will be donated to others so in this tragic event others may live.’

Kelsie-Leigh Kenny wrote on the page: ‘He meant the world to me and everyone around him. Deserved the world wish I could have given it to him sooner. Love you Luca.’

Natasha Knight added: ‘Heartbreaking. Luca was such an amazing caring loving lad always in our hearts, you’re in a better place now fly high bro.’

The exact nature of the injuries Luca sustained are unknown at present.
