Serious Tension As Two Anambra Assembly Factions Plan To Sit On Thursday
The two factions of the Anambra state House of Assembly are reportedly planning to sit on Thursday, sparking some tension.
There was tension on Wednesday in Awka, the Anambra State capital as the “warring’ factions of the state Assembly were mobilising to sit on Thursday, Punch Metro reports.
The Anambra State House of Assembly had been under locks since November 13 when about 25 out of 30 members of the house allegedly impeached the Speaker, Rita Maduagwu.
Maduagwu was impeached for alleged financial impropriety, incompetence and gross misconduct.
But Maduagwu in her reaction described her alleged impeachment as “a bundle of illegality, stressing that nobody could impeach her because she did not commit any offence to warrant that.
According to Punch Metro, it was gathered that following an alleged splitting of the pro-impeachment group, the Maduagwu group had planned to hold a plenary early morning on Thursday to further authenticate her leadership of the house.
Maduagwu enjoys the support of the state government. On the day she was impeached, both the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, the Chief of Staff and some chieftains of the All Progressives Grand Alliance rushed to the Assembly complex to intercede for her.
A source from the factional group of the house told Punch Metro on condition of anonymity that his faction was mobilising to ensure that Maduagwu and her supporters would not gain access to the house to sit.
The source said, “Those who are planning to conduct illegal plenary at the Anambra State House of Assembly tomorrow (Thursday)morning should be aware that the people of Anambra are mobilising to the House of Assembly Complex tomorrow to protest police invasion/sealing of the House of Assembly complex and also to prevent illegal sitting by Rita Madugwu sponsored by the Executive/Police to transact illegal transitions.
“We say no to the impeached former Speaker conducting any sessions under any cover.”
