Nnamdi Kanu: Defence team makes a U-turn on Orji Kalu’s summons
The defence team of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra , Mr . Nnamdi Kanu , has dropped its push to have a former Governor of Abia State Orji Kalu appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja and testify about the whereabouts of the Biafran activist, The PUNCH has learnt.This , it was learnt, was due to Kanu ’ s surprised emergence in an online video clip reportedly showing him praying in Israel .
The Federal Government was prosecuting Kanu and others on charges of treasonable felony at the Federal High Court in Abuja before he became missing since September 14 , 2017 following a military invasion of his home in Afara -Ukwu in Umuahia , Abia State.
Kanu ’ s lead counsel , Mr . Ifeanyi Ejiofor , had caused the court to summon the former governor for claiming that the IPOB leader had escaped to the United Kingdom after the military invasion .
Kalu ’ s claim was in contrary to Ejiofor- led legal team ’ s belief that the IPOB leader was either abducted or killed by soldiers during the military operation .
