How I Burnt Fingers Taking Decisions For Lagos – Gov. Ambode Opens Up
The outgoing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has recounted how he, in the line of duty burnt some fingers while taking some strategic decisions in Lagos state.
While speaking at the 12th Security Town Hall Meeting held at the Civic Centre in Lagos on Wednesday, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, revealed the difficulties he encountered while taking some strategic decisions in Lagos state, saying that he had on many occasion suffered consequences of his action while he received commendation for others.
According to The Telegraph, Ambode said that as chief driver of the state, he had initiated some policies which had improved the lots of residents with commendation while some of his actions and policies had brought him into ridicule.
The influential politician commended those who had worked for Lagos State Security Trust Fund, saying that from the available statistics in the state police command, Lagos was peaceful, safe and the safest city on Africa continent.
He said : “Before assuming office, I have decided to try my hands on community policing. Since I will not be granted the permission to establish State Police, and that is why I embarked on the LNSC.
“I just like to often try new things. And doing these, some I burn my fingers, and others I sail through. So, we must continue to do new things. They don’t carry gun but they have been very effective.
“We are in the period of the season where everyone aims to make cover-up for losses recorded since the beginning of the year. And that is what we need to outsmart these guys in terms of security. This is one of the programmes I met and I hope that Sanwo-Olu will continue with the programme.
“We will do everything within our means to ensure that residents of Lagos have a hitch-free yuletide in Lagos. We expect that we all report whatever is happening around us. We cannot do anything about security without working on the funding model in the state.
“More people are coming into the state in search of greener pasture, an indication that the remaining 35 percent aren’t working. And due to this, we need to boost security because same capacity of law enforcement agencies cannot manage the upsurge in population. We need to stretch ourselves to be able to manage the successes recorded in Lagos.
“And part of the thing we tried to do within this period this year is to setup a taskforce for December all through the Campaign period, to see how we can use plane security experts to work in collaboration with police and other law enforcement agencies. They will work without people realising that they are watching them. This is to mitigate insecurity.”
