Reckless driver to die for crushing FRSC officer to death
A state high court sitting in Birnin Kebbi , Kebbi State , has sentenced a reckless driver , Usman Aliyu , to death for crushing a Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal Assistant ( RMA III ) , Muhammad Babangida , to death .
A statement by the Corps Public Education Officer , Bisi Kazeem , said the incident occurred along Ahmadu Bello way in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi , on April 3 , 2017 .
According to reports , Aliyu who drove a Black Toyota Corolla with the registration number , KLG 342 AA on the said day had attempted to knock down a member of the FRSC patrol team , Abubakar Garba Abubakar.
However , when he couldn ’ t knock Abubakar down , he recklessly headed for the deceased and ensured that he crushed him to death as his first target .
The accused , who was sentenced to death on Wednesday , Oct . 4 , 2018 , was also reported to have fled the scene after killing his victim . However , he got arrested along Kalgo Road by the police after a tip- off .
The Corps has lost 74 personnel to reckless drivers in the last 18 months.
