Paul Scholes attacks Mourinho over comments on Rashford, McTominay
Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has criticised manager, Jose Mourinho, over his comments on striker; Marcus Rashford and midfielder, Scott McTominay following the Red Devils’ dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Saturday in the Premier League.
Mourinho described Rashford and McTominay, both of whom were brought off while United trailed 2-0, as being “sad” and “scared” during the match.
“Rashford was sad on the pitch. McTominay was scared on the pitch. All the players commit mistakes that were not normal,” Mourinho said after the match.
Scholes, however, admitted that there was no need for Mourinho to make such comments about the duo in public, adding that it wouldn’t help them to improve.
“I didn’t really like the comments about McTominay and Rashford. I don’t think that will help them,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“Maybe that’s a thing he could have done not in front of everybody, and give them a bit of confidence and put an arm around them.
“But to come out and say it… if that was me, I wouldn’t like that, I wouldn’t like that type of comment, saying I was scared on the football pitch.
“But he’s got great experience and he looks like he’s ready to fight and get through it.”
