Newcastle striker, Ritchie names Man United star that helped Mourinho’s men in 3-2 win
Newcastle United striker, Matt Ritchie has said that the introduction of midfielder, Marouane Fellaini helped Jose Mourinho’s men to defeat Rafael Benitez’s side 3-2 in the Premier League fixture played at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Mourinho’s tactical switch in the second half of the match helped the home side turn a 2-0 deficit, with midfielder, Juan Mata, forwards, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez getting on the scoresheet as the game ended 3-2 in favour of the hosts.
Ritchie, however, believes Mourinho’s decision to bring on Fellaini changed the course of the match.
“When they brought Fellaini on, it made it hard to put pressure on the ball, we were pegged in and couldn’t get out,” Ritchie told PLP.
“We gave ourselves a chance and we’re disappointed not to have carried it [the performance] out for 90 minutes.
“We did really well in the first half and could have scored one or two more and there are some positives we need to take from that.
“Us as players are the only people who can get us out of this. We showed today that we have got some threat, certainly in the first half.”
