Jose Mourinho makes surprise press conference decision amid United turmoil

Manchester United face Newcastle in the late kick-off on Saturday evening with Mourinho desperate for three points after a four-game winless streak.
Usually, Mourinho holds his pre-game briefings on Friday afternoons at around 1pm.

But it appears the United boss wants to do his talking early on this occasion.

Mourinho will speak to the media at 8am and is bound to be asked about his relationship with Paul Pogba, Antonio Valencia’s Instagram gaffe, questions focussed on his Old Trafford future and the latest team news.

Mourinho clashed with journalists in his press conference ahead of the 0-0 draw with Valencia over reports Zinedine Zidane had called him to assure he was plotting for his job.

Despite the pressure on Mourinho, club legend Ryan Giggs feels he should keep his job.

“No [he should not be sacked],” Giggs said.

“They are going through a tough time but change and you will be in the same position in a year or two years.

“I believe he (Mourinho) should keep his job. The problem of late has been forward planning.

“So just take stock, it’s a tough time, but my stance hasn’t changed.”

But another Old Trafford hero, Paul Ince, reckons Mourinho could be sacked on Saturday if United lose to Newcastle.

“If they lose on Saturday evening, particularly if it’s a bad loss, there will be a decision made on Jose Mourinho’s future very quickly,” Ince told Paddy Power.

“If they don’t get a result against Newcastle this weekend, Jose Mourinho is in real danger.
“He won’t walk, because that’s not in his character. I hate the thought of Jose being sacked.

“But, If you’re not picking up results and there’s this black cloud hanging around Old Trafford, your time as manager is running out.

“The signs are not looking good for him. The fact is, United are no better off than they were before Mourinho.

“In the past, you’d say United aren’t the kind of club to just sack a manager.

“But it seems that is what they’re like now.”
