APC primary: Ayogu Eze clinches Enugu guber ticket
Senator Ayogu Eze was on Friday declared winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Enugu State.
DAILY POST reports that the result of the exercise, conducted through the direct primacy, was announced by the chairman of the election committee, Prof. Moses Momoh.
According to him, out of the 66,122 votes cast by delegates, 66,002 were valid.
He gave a breakdown of the votes as follows: George Ogara- 293, Benjamin Eche- 840, Augustin Akubue- 181, Ifeanyi Nwoga- 9821 and Ayogu Eze- 53,967.
In the National Assembly result announced by the committee, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on justice reform, Barr. Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu clinched the Enugu West ticket, former Enugu Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo got the Enugu North ticket, while Uchenna Ezemba won that of Enugu East.
House of Representatives are as follows: Udi/Ezeagu- Joe Mamel, Aninri/Awgu/Oji River- Vin Martins Ilo, Enugu East/Isi Uzo- Barr. Kate Nnamani, Nkanu East/NkanuWest- Tony Nwafor, Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South- Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani- Jonathan Chukwuma, Igbo-Eze North/Udenu- Barth Ugwuoke, Enugu-North/Enugu South- Nelson Maduka.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the exercise did not go down well with the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu.
Director of his campaign organization, Barr. Ben Onwusi, who flayed the Enugu West senatorial district result as announced by the committee, said it was an outcome of a grand conspiracy by those who never meant well for the progress of the party in the State.
“I want to say it clearly here that result sheets did not not go to the wards at all; in line with the committee’s directive, the ward chairmen, secretaries and women leaders in all the 5 council areas in Enugu West conducted the election, wrote the result and signed. We have it here but what you just read to us here is very strange.
“What happened is a conspiracy by people who call themselves leaders of the party. They want to kill this party in this State. We call ourselves progressives but there is nothing progressive in what has just happened,” he lamented.
In a remark, the VON-DG said despite what had happened, he would continue to give total support for President Buhari as well as the party, stressing that “I will pursue this in a civil and legal manner.”
Responding, chairman of the committee, Prof. Momoh urged aggrieved members not to be embittered to the point of wishing the party poor performance in 2019.
“Put together what you have, make it available to the State chairman of the party as well as the NWC. Let us resolve all issues in a legal manner, through the appropriate channels in the party,” he said.
