Another Goof By FG? Dead Judge Among 50 Nigerians Banned From Travelling Abroad
A former Chief Judge of Enugu State who was buried months ago, is among the Nigerian top dignitaries banned by President Buhari from travelling outside the country.
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has included a dead person on its list of 50 Nigerians banned from travelling abroad .
The presidential senior special adviser on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, had on Saturday, announced that at least 50 Nigerians being probed for alleged corruption have been banned from leaving the country.
He had said the action was to the effect of the executive order six recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
But you wouldnât believe among these Nigerians placed on the watch list published by The Nation, is Innocent Umezulike, former chief judge of Enugu state who has been deceased since June.
Interestingly, Umezulike passed away even before the executive order in question was signed by the president in July.
The late judge, who was arraigned in 2017 for alleged corruption, was laid to rest in September.
It is unclear, whether the presidency is aware that the late Jurist is already resting in peace in his grave in Enugu State or whether the ban is intended to operate even from his grave.
This however is not the first time the presidency will be listing dead Nigerians in its data as among the living. In December 2017, President Buhari appointed 8 dead people as Board members of government agencies and ministries.
