Ferdinand ‘Reveals’ Why Ronaldo Cried After Receiving Red Card During Champions League Match
Rio Ferdinand has spoken out about why Cristiano Ronaldo cried bitterly after receiving a red card during a Champions League match.
Rio Ferdinand believes his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo was reduced to tears at the prospect of missing a return to Old Trafford after a controversial red card on his Champions League debut for Juventus.
Ronaldo was sent off after a clash with Valencia centre-back, Jeison Murillo just before the 30-minute mark after he appeared to slightly pull the Colombianâs hair.
The legendary Manchester United centre-back played alongside the Portuguese superstar in the Premier League and gave an insight into his frustration at being dismissed.
And he believes that Ronaldoâs desire to play football combined with potentially âI donât know. I think it [the red card] is inconclusive really, itâs hard to see.
âIâm sure that Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus will appeal that.
âI think the emotion you can see coming out here, I think heâs going back to Old Trafford â heâll miss that game â he wants to play football, you can see that.â
Fellow United legend Scholes suspects that Ronaldo may have problems appealing the inevitable ban.
âIt looks like he had a couple of nibbles at him, â he added. âLooks like he had a kick at first, possibly swung an elbow.
âItâs difficult. If that goes to appeal, I think heâll struggle.â
He left the pitch in tears
When looking at closer footage of Ronaldoâs slight hair tug, Owen Hargreaves added: âYou canât do that.â
Ferdinand continued: âI think heâs got room to appeal, though.â
Despite the red card, Juventus still took a 2-0 lead courtesy of two penalties from Miralem Pjanic.
