2019 election: UPP reduces nomination fees
The National Chairman of United Progressives Party, Chief Chekwas Okorie , says that the party has reduced its nomination fees for all aspirants , seeking any political portfolio .This , he said , was resolved during the National Executive Council meeting of the party in Abuja .
Speaking through his Deputy National Chairman ( South) , Chief Ejike Uche in Owerri , during the state congress of the party on Saturday , Okorie disclosed that the party â s nomination fee for governorship aspirants was N 3 m , while those aspiring to go to the Senate would pay N 500 , 000 .
He also divulged that N 300 , 000 and N 50 , 000 nomination fees would be paid by aspiring to go to the House of Representatives and House of Assembly respectively .
He . however , stated that the partyâ s resolve was primarily to open doors for youngsters , women and the physically challenged to aspire for any political portfolio of their choice .
â The primary essence of the dramatic reduction in the nomination fees is to accommodate all who are aspiring for any political portfolio . UPP has come to make politics less expensive and mutually inclusive . What other parties have done in excluding some strata by technically imposing high nomination fees , UPP is saying no to it . The leadership of UPP is active , patriotic and actually the type of leadership Nigeria needs , â he added .
Okorie further commended Independent National Electoral Commission, National Officers of the party and security operatives for a peaceful congress conducted, which produced Chief Innocent Njoku as the state chairman .
In his speech , the Chairman of the congress committee, Mr . John Edowagie attributed the late commencement of the congress to the sudden death of the party chairman .
He said , â His death was a shock to us and our party . The late starting of the congress was because we used part of the time to give honour to whom its due . However , with INEC â s permission , we waited until his burial last Saturday . â
He urged the new executive to be conscious and be prepared for the challenges ahead .
Speaking on behalf of the new executive , Njoku thanked the delegates for the trust and confidence reposed in them and assured them that they would live up to the standard expected of them .
