The immediate past president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has finally opened up on the current political crisis rocking the National Assembly.
While speaking on Wednesday in Abuja when Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, paid him a visit in his Maitama residence, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, said that with the current unfolding issues in the country, the National Assembly would have been in chaos.
The former President, disclosed that chaos would have ensued but for the strong commitment and quality leadership style of Bukola Saraki at the National Assembly.

According to Vanguard, the former President, said further that if the National Assembly is in tatters, the nation’s democracy, probably, would have been considered gone and forgotten.

Jonathan commended the Senate President for the firm and progressive leadership he had provided for the National Assembly, and stressed that the tremendous support being enjoyed by Saraki from lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives buttressed his leadership ability.

He said: “Senate President, let me use this opportunity to commend your leadership abilities. Looking at what is happening in the country, if not for your strong leadership, probably the National Assembly would have been in chaos and if the National Assembly is in tatters, then of course, democracy is gone.

“I am quite pleased with the kind of relationship you have with the House of Representatives members and how you have been able to hold the National Assembly together because on the day the parliament was invaded, though the target was the Senate, the House of Representatives members were as active as well, if not more active than senators and that cannot happen by chance.”

Earlier in his remarks, Saraki said his visit was to pay his respect to the ex-President and also inform him of his formal return to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Saraki said the current realities in the country showed that all those who love the country must work together to return the country to the path of growth, fairness, equity and justice.
