Maurizio Sarri reveals why Chelsea threw away two-goal lead to Arsenal
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says his side must work harder on the training ground to implement his ideas after the Blues’ 3-2 win against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
Pedro and Alvaro Morata gave Chelsea a 2-0 lead within 20 minutes as the Blues dominated at Stamford Bridge but Arsenal clawed back the deficit before half-time through Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Mkhitaryan missed a sitter moments before his goal, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was guilt of the same as the Gunners suddenly started producing clear chances at will.
Chelsea were better defensively in the second half and Marcos Alonso struck late on to give his side all three points but Sarri has revealed the tactical mistakes his side made in the first half.
‘It was a wonderful game,’ said Sarri.
‘The three points were very hard for us but I think that we did well because after the end of the first half it was not so easy to start again.
‘I think we lost the distance between players because in the 15 mins [before half-time] we were unable to cover the lost ball and to arrive to press at the right time.
‘I think we lost completely the distances. We have to work because in 15 mins we conceded four or five opportunities so we have to work.’
Chelsea’s win means they’ve won six points out of six so far in the Premier League and are currently top of the table.
Manchester City could leapfrog the Blues with an emphatic win against Huddersfield at the Etihad on Sunday.
