#WorldCup 2018: Pogba pays tribute to Messi after Argentina’s elimination
Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba paid tribute to Barcelona star, Lionel Messi after France dumped Argentina out of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
After scrapping through into the round of 16, the La Albiceleste eventually bowed out after narrowly losing 4-3 to the Les Bleus in Saturday’s thriller.
Goals from Angel Di Maria, Gabriel Marcado and Sergio Aguero were not enough as Kylian Mbappe’ s brace and goals from Benjamin Pavard and Antoine Griezmann secured France their first ever World Cup win against Argentina in three meetings
Pogba, however, was quick to console Messi after the game.
The former Juventus playmaker approached the 31-year-old and wrapped his arms around the Barca number 10, who seemed to appreciate the classy gesture.
“When you play against the best footballer of the last ten years, I watch and learn from him,” Pogba said at a post-match press conference.
“Messi makes me love football. He will always be my idol.”
Pogba will hope to lead France to victory against Uruguay in the quarter-final this weekend.
