Mbappe snubs Messi and includes himself as he reveals his top 5 favourites to win the Ballon d’Or
Kylian Mbappe has revealed his top five favourites to win the Ballon d’Or – and has remarkably snubbed Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
The teenager stormed onto the footballing scene as Monaco reached the semi-final of the Champions League back in 2017, before he moved to Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £166million.
This summer he showed everyone why he commanded such a staggering fee by leading France to their second World Cup.
The 19-year-old was a key part of the France side that beat Argentina 4-3 in the round of 16 in this summer’s finals, netting twice.
He was also a part of the team that beat Uruguay in the quarters and Belgium in the semis before getting on the scoresheet once more in the final against Croatia.
Mbappe recently spoke to France Football about his sensational World Cup and was asked for his opinion on who could win the Ballon d’Or.
The Frenchman provided four names: Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Raphael Varane. He then added: “To complete, I think I would put myself too.”
Interestingly Mbappe chose to overlook five-time winner of the award Messi, who won another La Liga title with Barcelona last season.
He also snubbed Mo Salah, who netted a staggering 32 times in the Premier League last season and guided Liverpool to the Champions League final.
