Jose Mourinho names Man United captain for new season

Manchester United are set to stick with Antonio Valencia for the new season as captain following the retirement of Michael Carrick.
The Ecuadorian had captained United for much of last season despite Carrick being substantive captain but with the latter being either injured or completely left out, it was Valencia who captained whenever he played.

And he is set to be United’s substantive skipper for the new season with Carrick now completely out of the picture.
Nemanja Matic or Paul Pogba were possibilities in taking on the role in a formal capacity this season, but Mourinho has indicated that Valencia is likely to lead the team again.
“The captain was Valencia last season, and I think he’s going to be the captain,” said the United manager. “When he doesn’t play, we have to make decisions.
“It depends on who is on the pitch. If Smalling is, Ashley Young is, if (Ander) Herrera is or (Juan) Mata is, if they are on the pitch they have an option.
“Matic has all the attributes to be Manchester United captain, but he arrived only one year ago.”
