Another Lawmaker Dumps The Ruling APC
A lawmaker representing Lere/Bula constituency on Wednesday renounced his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress but did not announce his new party.
A member of Bauchi State House of Assembly who is contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Bauchi South Senatorial district bye-election, Aminu Tukur has dumped the party.
He disclosed his decision to dump the party after a meeting at the party’s secretariat before its primaries on Wednesday.
Tukur who represents Lere/Bula constituency in the state House of Assembly said that he ditched the party over the decision to use delegates instead of Option A4 as earlier stated by the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“We just finished discussion with the committee that comes from the national secretariat under the leadership of the deputy governor of Edo state,” he said.
According to him, he went into the contest expecting that the party will provide a level-playing field for all aspirants and carry out the primaries in a transparent manner to ensure justice.
He however lamented that he was disappointed by the decision of the party to shelve its earlier decision to conduct direct primaries through Option A4.
Tukur noted that they thought that direct primaries will be more transparent as every eligible party member have the right to vote and will give him more freedom to choose the candidate of his choice.
The lawmaker who is a close political ally of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and late Senator Ali Wakili, however declined to disclose the party he is joining next.
