Police arrest ‘barren’ woman, naval officer for alleged kidnapping in Delta

The police anti-kidnapping team attached to the Delta State Police Command in Asaba has arrested a 52-year-old woman identified as Dumebi Okwudili in GRA Asaba, for allegedly stealing a child in the area in the early hours of Friday.


Mr. Muhammad Mustafa, the Police Commissioner in the state, who confirmed the arrest of the woman to DAILY POST in Asaba, said the suspect stole a 2-year-old baby under the guise of buying biscuits for him under the watchful eyes of the parents. She was said to have disappeared into thin air, but luck ran out on her while in a bid to escape, she was sighted by the police who were on her trail based on the alarm raised by the parents of the child. She was arrested on the spot.

Okwudili was said to have been arrested around Akpu junction Okpanam road, Asaba where she was waiting for a cab with the baby.

The police boss said that the suspect upon interrogation confessed to have hailed from Enugu state, and had been married for ten years without a child hence her desperate move to have one, adding that she will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

The police boss also disclosed that a suspected naval officer, one Ibrahim Jubrin, was also arrested in Sapele on Monday for allegedly kidnapping two persons, adding that the suspect ordered the two persons to ride their motorcycles into the bush where they were tied to tree before the police following intelligence gathering swooped on him inside the bush, and arrested him before rescuing the victims.

He said that investigation was ongoing while the said naval officer is being detained for further interrogation, and will be charged to court upon completion.
