China-Made Pistols Recovered As Notorious Gun Runner Is Nabbed Inside A Hotel In Bayelsa (Photo)

A gun runner has been nabbed inside a hotel in Bayelsa state as China-made pistols are recovered from him.

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a suspected gun runner, Markus Akassa, recovering an AK47 rifle and two Barreta pistols in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Capital, Nigerian Tribune reports.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations, DSP Asinim Butswat, detectives from the Anti-Cultism Unit in a coordinated covert operation, lured the said gun runner into their net under the guise of purchasing arms from him, before arresting him.

Markus Akassa ‘M’ 45years. The gun runner who hails from Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was arrested with one Ekioyoufegha Agge ‘m’ 34 years, who hails from Oboro Town, in Delta State, who usually introduces him to buyers.

“They were arrested on 16 June 2018, at about 1400hours, at a hotel at Akenfa three, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and the following arms were recovered from them; one AK47 rifle and two China-made Barreta pistols.

“The suspect confessed that he usually travelled to the Republic of Cameroon to buy arms and ammunition in a community called Okwa, in a border town with Bakassi Peninsula and sells an AK 47 riffle for Five hundred and fifty thousand Naira and Berratta pistol for Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira, in Nigeria.

“Investigation is ongoing to recover some of the guns he earlier sold and arrest the buyers. The command appeals to members of the public to avail the police with useful information that may lead to the recovery of arms from unauthorized persons.” The statement added.
