The sit-at-home declared by the members of the indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in the south east geopolitical zone of the country Wednesday received a high level of compliance, as schools and some markets were shutdown.

DAILY POST recalls that the sit-at-home order, according to IPOB, was to mark the declaration of Biafra by the igbo warlord, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu and to honour the falling heroes of Igbo land that were killed during the Biafran war.

Recall also that the chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum and governor of Ebonyi state, Chief David Umahi had warned against any compliance by traders in the zone.

He equally threatened that any trader that closes shop to observe the order declared by IPOB, will forfeit the shop forever.

But when DAILY POST visited some schools in Nkaliki Urban in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, they were totally shutdown as pupils were seen returning back to their various homes.

Also, motorist were not moving outside Ebonyi state capital at the early hours of Wednesday for fear of being attacked by IPOB members or any other groups that may hide under this declaration to cause mayhem in the society.

When DAILY POST contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebonyi state command, Asp Loveth Odah, she said: “If we actually know the school
that shutdown because of this IPOB sit-at-home declaration, the Principal of such school will be held responsible.

“We have announced that people should go about their lawful businesses. About 35 security personnel moved out this morning telling the general public to go about their normal businesses without molestation or intimidation by anybody.

“I want to remind the members of the general public that IPOB is a proscribed organization. IPOB is an illegal organization and so, an order declared by illegal organization cannot be obeyed.

“Whoever that molests any member of the society will be arrested by the police and there will be immediate prosecution. Police in Ebonyi State and other security agencies are prepared to protect the general Public,” she stated.
