2018 World Cup: Gernot Rohr reveals 24th player to make Super Eagles team
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed the 24th player that would be in Eagles’ team in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Rohr said that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, will be part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2018 World Cup, but as the unregistered twenty- fourth player.
Nigeria have included an extra player on their roster in previous editions of the World Cup, with former coaches, Clemens Westerhof and Festus Onigbinde taking Tijani Babangida and Peter Odemwingie to USA 1994 and Korea/Japan 2002 respectively.
Carl Ikeme, who is currently recovering from illness, played in the second round of the African World Cup qualifiers against Swaziland and was in goal when Nigeria beat Zambia away in their first game of the third round.
Rohr told reporters, ”Until the last moment, there is a possibility of bringing in these players.
“Carl Ikeme will be our 24th player to the World Cup.”
The Franco-German also explained why the Super Eagles chose Uyo as their training camp ahead of their friendly match with England.
He added, ”All the time we play in Uyo, we felt at home. We brought the pre-World Cup camp to Uyo, to remind the fans that we started here.”
