Champions League: What Guardiola told referee Lahoz that got him sent off in 2-1 loss to Liverpool
It has been revealed what Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, actually told Spanish referee, Antonio Mateu Lahoz, during his side’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League quarter final second leg on Tuesday.
Spanish outlet, Marca revealed that the former Barcelona coach told Lahoz to shut up at half-time of the game.
The referee sent Guardiola to the stands when the City manager angrily confronted him on the pitch and was seen wildly gesturing at the official.
City had a Leroy Sane’s goal wrong disallowed when Lahoz and his assistant decided that the goal was offside, when in fact the ball had come off James Milner.
Guardiola shouted at the referee as his players made their way into the dressing room at the half-time, before he was ordered to spend the second half watching from the stands.
The Spaniard later denied he had said anything to justify Lahoz’s decision to send him to the stand. But Marca claimed Guardiola told Lahoz to shut his mouth.
The Sports outlet quoted Guardiola to have said, “It’s a penalty, watch it on the net, it’s a goal and it’s a penalty, close your mouth, it’s a goal and it’s a penalty.”
Guardiola, who has history with the referee, had after the match told reporters that Lahoz likes to be “special”, hinting he (Guardiola) thinks very little of the official’s integrity.
