168 Guns And 2,323 Ammunition Recovered From Notorious Criminals In Imo (Photos)

Mr Chris Ezike, the Commissioner of Police in Imo state has showed off 168 guns and 2,323 ammunition recovered by his command during its mop-up of armaments in the state.
Ezike, who made the disclosure in Owerri on Tuesday while displaying the weapons, said they were recovered from criminals and some individuals who surrendered their own voluntarily.
He said the command also recovered 99 cartridges and 25 empty magazines.
The commissioner said the command would deposit the arms and ammunition in the public armory.
He said the arrangement was in compliance to the Inspector General of Police directive for all state police commands to deposit all mop-up and surrendered arms and ammunition to the public armory.
Ezike said all persons arrested in connection with the recoveries that were not voluntarily made are facing various charges in court.
He explained that the arms recovery had become a proactive exercise aimed at checking the activities of would be political thugs.Read full statement below:
EXHIBITION OF MOPPED UP PROHIBITED FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION BY IMO STATE POLICE COMMAND
In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM,mni, on disarmament of prohibited firearms and illegal weapons, the Imo State Police Command today 10/4/2018 showcased recovered prohibited firearms and ammunition at the State Police Headquarters, Owerri.
Addressing newsmen, the Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Okey Ezike stated that this catchment of arms and ammunition recovered from wrong hands will no doubt reduce the number of arms and ammunition in circulation in the state and as well minimize thugery activities in the coming 2019 elections.
The Commissioner of Police further stated that since the commencement of the mop –up operations, crime and criminality has drastically reduced in the state. The command wishes to urge members of the public who are still in possession of such prohibited firearms to surrender them to the state command task force on the recovery exercise.
In the same vein, two notorious armed robbery/murder suspects were also paraded before newsmen. The suspects Chukwudi Ezeala ‘m’ aka ‘infinity’ 33yrs of age of Umuodu Umukabia in Ehime Mbano L.G.A. and Chizoba Ihedioha ‘m’ aka ‘Sunlight’ 25yrs of age of Mgbakam Okohia Obowo L.G.A. in company of two others now at large on 17/02/2018 robbed and murdered one Jude Emeka Onye ‘m’ who just returned from Spain.
The victim and others were drinking at a joint along Amainyi Obowo when the hoodlums struck and robbed them of their GSM handsets and other valuables and in the process killed the victim. One Highlander Jeep without registration number and one Toyota Corolla with Reg. No. WER729 LC suspected to have been stolen were recovered from them. The suspects have confessed to the crime and will soon appear in court. Serious efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
