Jose Mourinho happy with United first-half showing against Swansea
Jose Mourinho declared Manchester United’s first-half performance as one of the best showings at Old Trafford this season as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez proved the difference in a 2-0 win over Swansea.
The Reds returned from the international break in style after an impressive first 45 minutes effectively put the game to bed. Lukaku grabbed his 100th Premier League goal latching on to an Alexis’ pass, whilst the Chilean then netted a goal himself minutes later and that was how it stayed. Read the key points from the boss in his post-match interviews with MUTV …
TOP FIRST-HALF PERFORMANCE
“[The first half] was one of the best halves we have played at Old Trafford this season. 2-0 was very short, not just in terms of our chances to score, but in terms of our quality and the beauty of our football. The second half was different, we gave them the chance they didn’t have in the first half. We gave them the ball to try and create something, we went a little bit down, maybe six of our players had international football that can tire and ache. They probably let the game and the intensity go down and felt the game was under control.”
WE DESERVE TO FINISH SECOND
“Overall seven matches to go, three very important points, we want to finish in the best possible position which is the second position. We are there for the whole season and clearly I think we deserve to finish there, but to finish there we need points and today those three points were important.”
ON LUKAKU’S 100TH PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL
“Yes it is [a great record], but I say again football is not just about the goals he scores, it is much more than that and I am really happy with that. But more important than that is the victory, the three points and we are there.”
GOOD FOR ALEXIS TO SCORE
“Alexis to score a goal is nice for him, for his confidence, but again it was our best period in the game and 2-0 was really short to arrive at half-time.”
CARRICK’S COACHING DEBUT
“Yes one match, one victory. We are preparing him for that. He obviously has the knowledge and the experience as a player, but to be on the other side is a different perspective and to start having these little feelings of being on the coaching staff is only positive for him because when he starts next season he will be much more comfortable.”
