LASU final year student and Unilag PhD student killed by train while on phone
Tragedy which struck along Ikeja railway line on Monday morning, reportedly left a postdoctoral student at the University of
Lagos identified as Fatai Mutiu Abolade and a yet to be identified final year student of LASU dead, as they were reportedly crushed to death by a train around Ajayi Farm, Ikeja.
The identity card found on the LASU student, showed that he was studying Economics in UNILAG and his matriculation number was 119081228.
According to eyewitnesses, Abolade and the LASU final year student were crushed to death by the train which was on full speed, while on their phone. It was gathered that the train driver kept honking, but the late accident victims were distracted by their phones.
However while some claimed Abolade had earphones on, others said he was checking his phone but had no earphone plugged into his ears. Strangely, his phone was stolen immediately the accident happened. Sympathizers who wanted to check his phone contact so they can notify his relatives could not find his phone.
âHe was looking into his phone and pressing it. The train was honking but he did not hear. People were also shouting, he just checking his phone. By the time he raised his head up, he was already hit by the railway. There was no how he could have survived itâ one of the eyewitnesses said.
SR reported that though Lagos state security officials were at the scene, however a Lagos State Ambulance which came around did not carry the corpse, insisting that the police had to issue a report before the remains can be removed.
This is coming after it was reported sometime in November 2017, that several death were recorded, many seriously injured while many vehicles and property were destroyed, after a train derailed at the Abbatoir area of Agege, the outskirts of Lagos.
