This comes after photos of her son Liam Mango modelling a “coolest monkey in the jungle” hoodie went viral, with social media users accusing H&M of racism. Many more people got angry when Liam’s mother Terry Mango defended the brand and told people to stop “crying wolf.” She has been accused of selling off her child’s right by some quarters and they believe she is trying to exploit the naivety of the child .
Despite the backlash she has faced, Terry Mango still doesn’t believe H&M had a racist agenda. In her own words, she believes the people misinterpreted the words of the hoodie, and also some
activists are trying to exploit the situation for their own gains to preach against racism and to get attention o the media
Terry mango and her family have moved out of their house in Stockholm following “security concerns” Mrs Mango added. Though she did not elaborate on the safety reasons, she said the attacks on H&M stores in and around Johannesburg were one reason for the move.
Just some few days ago, H & M stores in South Africa were vandalized by natives of the country in protest to the Swedish based clothing company on the production of the controversial hoodie.
Innocent shoppers and bystanders were forced to flee as chanting gangs wearing uniforms of the country’s radical opposition party swept through H&M stores across the city, including Africa’s flagship store in the upmarket suburb of Sandton. The company is said to be facing the consequences for their actions .
“I respect other people’s opinion on the issue. I know racism exists, but does the shirt to me speak racism? No it doesn’t,” she told BBC .
