El-Zakzaky: He’s Almost Losing His Second Eye, Bullet in Wife’s Body Yet to Be Removed – Femi Falana
Human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana, has reacted to the alleged death of Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shiite.
While speaking in swift response to rumours of the death of the detained leader of a Nigerian Shiites group, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and lawyer to the Islamic leader, Femi Falana, said his client is alive but seriously ill.
Earlier on Friday, rumours of the death of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria spread on the social media, just hours after the latest rounds of protests by his followers, demanding his release, held in Abuja.
Recall that El-Zakzaky and his wife have been detained without trial since December 2015 by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government, and they sustained gunshot wounds during their arrests, his lawyer said.
According to Premium Times, while speaking on the current state of El Zakzaky, Femi Falana said; “Clinically he (El-Zakzaky) is not dead yet. But he is very very sick. He has lost an eye, he is in the process of losing the other one. He has developed stroke in detention.
“Bullets in the wife’s body have not been removed since 2015,” he added, and accused the government of violating the fundamental rights of the detainees.
“Regulation 12 of the Prisons Act that law has been there since 1917; even convicts can be handed over to their families for treatment when the state can no longer provide such,” he said.
