Popular Indian Actor Shashi Kapoor is Dead

79-year-old Bollywood legend, Shashi Kapoor, reportedly lost the battle to a chronic kidney disease  this evening at a hospital in Mumbai, India.

Dr Ram Narain, Executive director of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, who confirmed the actor’s death said; “Shashi Kapoor expired at 5.20 pm on December 4 at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai”.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also confirmed the death of the actor who won awards for his roles in Hindi films including “Jab jab Phool Khile” (When a Flower Blossoms), “Awara” (Vagabond), and “Kabhi Kabhie” (Sometimes), tweeted;

“Shashi Kapoor’s versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers.”

Shashi who is survived by his daughter Sanjana Kapoor and his two sons Kunal and Karan, was born to an actor father who performed all over the country during the Partition era with his repertory company the Prithvi Theaters.
