Prince Harry and Meghan are Actually Distant Cousins According to Historians
Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle may actually be long lost cousins, according to reports.
While the royal prince was raised in Kensington, London, his other half was born 5,500 miles away in California.
But analysis of their ancestry suggests the two may not be as disconnected as you might imagine.
According to the Mail on Sunday, Meghanâs roots can be traced all the way back to a 15th century English family which became very well connected.
Her father Thomas Markle is distantly related to
Ralph Bowe s, the High Sheriff of County Durham who lived from 1480-1518, and had extensive estates based at Streatlam Castle .
Several generations later, relatives moved to the United States to start a new life and can eventually be linked to Meghan.
Down another strand of the family tree, the Bowes married into the Lyon family .
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon then married into the Royal Family when she wed the Duke of York, who would become King George VI.
His daughter is, of course, Queen Elizabeth II.
Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, met last year in Canada and rumours swirled of a royal engagement until they finally announced the news today.
