Louise Redknapp reveals she ended her marriage to Jamie after Daisy Lowe convinced her she was still sexy
In a heartfelt interview, Louise confirmed how the BBC show made her drastically rethink her life, forcing her and Jamie to live apart — as we reported in June.
It was perhaps the most startling case of the Strictly curse in its 13-year history.
Louise, 42, said a turning point came when Daisy burst into her dressing room and told her: “Oh, my God look at your gorgeous body. You have to wear a sexy dress.”
The star admitted: “She kept on at me to wear something sexy and by week three, I was in a leotard and tights not feeling self-conscious at all.
“I could feel myself changing week by week.
“Sometimes I felt like crying because deep down inside me this voice was screaming ‘This is what I have been missing!’”
Louise gave up her pop career to become a full-time mum to sons Charley, now 13, and eight-year-old Beau.
But she confessed to looking on enviously as husband Jamie, 44, went from being a professional footballer to a presenter on Sky Sports and panellist on TV’s A League of Their Own.
Louise said, in a wide-ranging interview with the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine on Sunday: “I was proud of him but there was part of me thinking that’s my world.
“I could see the excitement he got out of it and I knew how that felt. But it wasn’t me feeling it anymore.”
She said taking part in Strictly was “the first selfish thing I have done since my kids were born”.
Louise also told the magazine how she:
- WAS a Stepford Wife trapped in a Surrey mansion trying to be the perfect mum and wife.
- FELT physically sick at the idea she would never experience the buzz of performing again.
- SAT down with her kids and explained why it was desperately important that she needed to leave Jamie to create a career for herself
- STILL wears her wedding and engagement rings, speaks to Jamie every day and they have no plans to divorce.
Louise, who sold 10 million records with Eternal and had three solo albums, turned down Strictly several times before agreeing to take part last year.
She reached the final last December and was runner-up with partner Kevin Clifton.
She said: “I’d been asked to do it before but always said no because I’d never mis-sed the kids’ matches, carol services, pick-ups, drop-offs or assemblies as well as al- ways being there to give them their dinner.
