Benue born Catholic Priest, Father Gospel .J. Inalegwu, who was kidnapped last year at his parish, St Joseph Catholic Church, Jitan – Dutse, Kano State, reportedly sent in his resignation letter to the Bishop of Kano Diocese, Most Rev. John Namawzah Niyiring.

Father Gospel who was ordained in Kano State in 2013, has already traveled out of the state with all his belongings, as it was also gathered that his church members are yet to recover from the shock of his unprecedented action.

A Priest who spoke to Sunnews said though he feels his resignation came as a result of the trauma he suffered after his kidnap, however he added that “there could be other personal reasons behind his action”.

Sources claim that after the Priest regained freedom, he was granted a period of rest, but was eventually asked to resume at his old parish contrary to his expectation.

Reacting to the Priest’s resignation, the Bishop of Kano Diocese, Most Rev. John Namawzah Niyiring said, “I had some discussions with him to try to persuade him not to do what he is doing. I think he probably wants something else.”

Most Rev. John further disclosed that the Priest has always wanted to leave the Catholic Church; “ Long before his kidnap saga, he had voiced out his desire to do what he did. And we have a record of that”
