Kidnapper Evans’ Business Empire Exposed, Secretary, Ngozi Speaks
WHEN Saturday Vanguard described the story of arrested kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, aka Evans as a thriller, many thought it was informed by the media frenzy that trailed his arrest and the sophistication with which he carried out his nefarious activities.
But likening it to a movie was however, a product of this Newspapers’ exclusive knowledge of the activities of the former king of the underworld which it had earlier reported long before his a5rrest by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Abba Kyari-led Inspector General of Police, IGP, Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, in Lagos.
True to our description, so many revelations and events had happened in one of the most notorious criminal cases in Nigeria’s history.
The latest would surely leave many curious once again about Evans, his life and his ways.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that a truck park, with a fleet of 11 trucks belonging to the billionaire kidnapper, was discovered by operatives of the IRT at Ago, Okota area of Lagos State.
Vanguard gathered that Kyari, made the breakthrough recently when he succeeded in unlocking one of Evans’ mobile phones containing information about his numerous business transactions.
Mobile phones containing information
Sources disclosed that Evans, who was arrested on Saturday, June 10, 2017, while preparing to leave the country, having carried out several high-profile armed robbery and kidnap operations across the country, withheld information concerning his haulage company while being interrogated by IRT operatives.
A source told Vanguard that, while Evans was being questioned, he refused to disclose the password of his Vertu phone valued at $6000 on the grounds that he had forgotten the password.
The source explained that since the IRT was mandated by the IGP to track down all Evans’ property within and outside the country, it eventually succeeded in unlocking the phone when he was transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the source:”When we took Evans to Abuja, he was detained alone in a cell and was properly fed. The Investigating Police Officer handling his case visited him daily in his cell. And during one of such visits, Evans gave the password of his Vertu phone to the IPO. When the phone was unlocked, Evans’ personal and cooperate bank accounts details and his company’s name were discovered. Also discovered were conversations he had with his manager and other members of staff. Evans confessed that he has 11 trucks in his fleet. He said he bought the last four from the N150million ransom he received from Mr. Donatus Dunu, the Pharmacist who he kidnapped in February 2017 at Ilupeju area of Lagos State.”
After Evans was arraigned at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, alongside five members of his gang, the IRT discovered his haulage firm where his manager and some members of staff were arrested.
It was gathered that his employees, who were later released said they had no knowledge that their boss was a notorious kidnapper and armed robber.
They were said to have led the operatives to the truck park located at Ago Place Way, Okota, Lagos, where 11 trucks were found.
An employee, Miss Ezeokoye Ngozika, a former banker, told the operatives while she was being interrogated that she was the company’s secretary, who took inventory of the movement of the trucks from one location to another.
Ngozika disclosed that she took up the job at Evans’ company known as CMT Motors because she wanted to raise money to set up a tailoring business.
She said:” I am a native of Aguata in Anambra State. I am a graduate of Computer Science from IMT, Enugu. I was formerly working at a bank but I resigned and took to tailoring. I took up the job at CMT motors in Ago to raise money for my tailoring business. I started working with the company in 2015, while it was in Apapa and in 2016, we moved to Ago Palace Way. As the secretary, my job is to take notes of movements of the trucks and the amount that is paid for each voyage. The company has 11 trucks and all the documents are in my possession. The name of my boss is Mr. George Onwuamadike. The company has a bank account where we deposit all proceeds. I earn N70, 000 monthly. I was shocked when I heard that my boss was a notorious kidnapper terrorizing this country. I thought he was a decent man.”
