Atlanta Rapper Yung Mazi ‘who Has Been Shot More Than Ten Times in His Life’, Shot And Killed
Atlanta rapper Yung Mazi was shot and killed on Sunday night outside a pizza shop.
Yung Mazi, whose real name is Jibril A, was found dead after suffering multiple gunshot wounds around 8.55pm on Sunday outside Urban Pie in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta.
The up-and-coming rapper and father-of-two, who recently joined Kevin Gates’ BWA clique, previously claimed that he’s been shot more than ten times in his life.
While Mazi’s age is unclear, it is believed that he is 28 years old.
Police responded to the shooting on Sunday after hearing gunshots from their Zone 6 headquarters, WXIA reported.
They have not officially named the victim of the shooting, but social media tributes have poured in for the rapper.
Tributes came from fans and other rappers, including Young Thug and Zoey Dollaz.
His white Mercedes – which he had spent the day filming from for Instagram videos – was at the scene.
A suspected gunman has not been named by police.
Yung Mazi has previously been a victim of gun violence on several occasions.
He was shot three times on December 27, 2016, at a Buckhead, Georgia, Waffle House.
Following that incident, he told police that before the Waffle House shooting, he had been shot ten times in his lifetime.
Mazi later tweeted: ‘God made me bulletproof’.
‘I didn’t see anything,’ Mazi told Fox news at the time. ‘I was in there for 3-5 minutes and was about to order the All Star Special when bullets started flying.
‘I think the shooter was a customer inside. My friends and I were just trying to get some food after a night of making music.’
Mazi was raised as a devout Muslim in Atlanta and struggled to become known in the rap world for several years.
‘Now I’m officially in an artist state of mind. My work rule is to try to make three songs a day. I try to be in there all day, every night. I discovered that working overtime on my music keeps me out of trouble. In fact it probably saved my life,’ a bio on his website reads.
BWA – or Bread Winners Association – posted a tribute video featuring Mazi and Gates on its Instagram on Monday.
The record label was formed by Gates, whose real name is Kevin Jerome Gilyard, is the founder of BWA, which also features rappers OG Boobie Black and Dreka.
Gates is currently in prison serving a 30-month sentence for a gun-related conviction.
