Read What Africa’s Richest Man, Dangote Has To Say About Northern Quit Notice to Ndigbo
Africa’s richest man and Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has condemned the recent quit notice given to Nigerians of Igbo extraction by some northern youths to leave the region before October 1 or face physical attacks.
Alhaji Dangote, while condemning the hate speech against Ndigbo queried why such jobless youths were given relevance in the first place through reactions from well-meaning Nigerians.
The business mogul said, those youths were jobless and as such, only sought for relevance through threat.
According to him, “Some guys who have no relevance and values came out to issue a warning that Igbo should leave the North.
‘I am surprised everybody started talking about this nonsense. Why are we talking about it?
“Obviously, in a place where there is a lot of joblessness, it is expected that this kind of jobless people would come out with all sorts of anger.
“We understand the reasons why they are angry, but they cannot justify their action when they have decided not to work.
“They only issue the senseless warning to keep themselves relevant,”
Alhaji Dangote gave the statement when some business executives from Lagos Business School (LBS), visited his multi-billion dollars refinery and petrochemical projects in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
Recall that a northern coalition of Arewa youths had issued an eviction notice to Ndigbo living in the 19 states that make up the northern Nigeria. Such hate notice had equally drawn counter notices from other parts of the country even as well-meaning Nigerians from all walks of life have spoken out in condemnation of such threats.
The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo kick-started a peace and conflict resolution dialogue with leaders of the various parties to ensure that a lasting solution reigns in the country.
Recall also that the Arewa youths who had issued and maintained their ground that Ndigbo must leave had equally written Osinbajo, insisting that the Igbos must leave Nigeria, claiming that the continuous agitation for self-independence by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the widely adjudged mega success of the recent sit-at-home exercise by the pro-Biafran supporters is an affront to the North.
Meanwhile, the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters have continued to hold-sway on their agitation, even saying there would be no election in Anambra state come November if a referendum is not conducted in Nigeria.
