Lionel Messi was treated like a king when he touched down in Egypt his week. The Barcelona forward was chauffeured around in a fifteen vehicle convoy comprised of luxury jeeps, 4x4s and police motorcycles for his visit to the North African country.

The Argentine, under his new role as ambassador for the Tour n’ Cure campaign, is in Egypt to promote the country as a medical tourism destination for hepatitis C patients.

The disease is prevalent in Egypt and the Barcelona star has plans to “put an end to the waiting lists” of people in need of medication, according to his Facebook page.

Messi’s first stop after touching down in the country was to go and see the Pyramids, which he toured, before taking the opportunity to pose for photographs with fans.

From there he headed to Mena House Hotel to kick-start the launch of his campaign.

No less than 15 vehicles made up his convoy as he was chaperoned from the airport to the Pyramids and later the hotel.
