Daniel Craig is Now Officially the Second-longest Serving Bond — but is he the best?
According to metro, After winning over many initially-sceptical fans, Daniel Craig has now beaten Pierce Brosnan to become the second longest-serving James Bond in the history of the franchise.
The 48-year-old actor — whose future as 007 now seems to be hanging in the balance — has starred in Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.
He’s been the official Bond for 11 and a half years, which is 4,147 days in total, after his casting was secured on October 14, 2005.
Craig is technically under contract to appear in the next film Bond 25 too, but he could step down ‘if mutually agreed between himself and the film’s producers’.
The title of the longest-running Bond is currently held by Sir Roger Moore, who starred in a whopping seven films and spent 5,118 days in the role.
Original Bond Sean Connery also starred in seven Bond films but was in the role more than 1000 days less than Pierce Brosnan, who only made four over a course of 4,146 days.
Who made the best Bond?
Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby trail behind, with just three movies and 3,738 days between them.
These stats were based on the time between the day each actor was officially confirmed as James Bond and the day their successor was formally announced.
PA decided not to include the unofficial 1983 film Never Say Never, with Sean Connery.
Sir Roger Moore – seven movies, 5,118 days
Daniel Craig – four movies, 4,147 days
Pierce Brosnan – four movies, 4,146 days
Sean Connery – seven movies, 3,049 days
Timothy Dalton – two movies, 2,863 days
George Lazenby – one movie, 875 days
While Daniel Craig previously said he’d rather ‘slit [his] wrists’ than play Bond again, reports have suggested producer Barbara Broccoli and executive producer Callum McDougall are desperate to secure his loyalty .
‘Without any question, he is absolutely [producer] Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson’s first choice and I know they are hoping for him to come back,’ McDougall said in September 2016.
No, there won’t be an Alan Rickman tribute in the Love Actually sequel
If not, his possible successors include Aidan Turner, Idris Elba, James Norton and bookies’ favourite Tom Hardy.
Bond 25, which will be the 25th Bond film, is expected to arrive between late 2017 and early 2018. Casting directors need to get their skates on.
