Politicians Defecting To APC From S-East Are Enemies Of Biafra — MASSOB
Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, took a swipe on some politicians from South-East who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, branding them “real enemies of Biafra.”
MASSOB National Director for Publicity, Samuel Edeson, in a statement in Enugu, said the group aligns with the position of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who accused the defectors of selfish pursuit, adding that the defectors have no political value in Igboland.
The group berated a particular defector whom it said was not useful to either the state or Ndigbo when he led the National Assembly.
“They (Ndigbo) never benefited anything during his tenure as Senate President. These men are contract seekers that have no Igbo interest in mind. Time has come when we will no longer accept these kind of men in Igbo land. We are going to mobilize all the genuine pro-Biafra agitators and Igbo youths against these selfish greedy politicians.
“Who among these men that decamped to APC can beat his chest and boldly say that this is what I did for my people. Nobody will use Igbo land as battle field again like NPN/NPP in 1983.
“The Fulani herdsmen killed our people in Nimbo Uzo-Uwani, killed in Awgu; Umuahia, Delta and other places and they did not see reasons to speak against these killings of innocent people.
“They are political prostitutes. When we said last year that we are going to make this government ungovernable, they thought that we are going to fight them with arms, or going to the streets to protest. No, with our diplomatic moves, we have been able to achieve a lot,” said MASSOB.
No politician can fund us —IPOB
Also, yesterday, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, denied speculations that the organization was being funded by politicians, saying that as a global movement that had presence in over 100 countries, no individual or group was capable of funding its activities.
IPOB was reacting to a statement credited to the former leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, that some Nigerian politicians were funding IPOB.
IPOB spokespersons, Mr. Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, said in a statement that rather than accuse IPOB unduly, it was Uwazurike that allegedly collected money from politicians to fund MASSOB.
The statement read: “To set the records straight, one of the cardinal rules in IPOB is that we don’t mingle with politicians, neither do we accept any monetary gift or inducement from any politician. This is one of the greatest frustrations of certain governors who have tried everything within their powers to induce IPOB with money, but we rebuffed them.”
Killings of MASSOB/IPOB members
In another development, the newly inaugurated South-East caucus of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has called for a judicial inquest into the shootings and extra-judicial killings of members of MASSOB and IPOB whenever they were on peaceful protests.
The South-East IPAC said the probe had become necessary because the protests by the groups “in no way present a threat to our collective security.”
Rising from a meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, during which the group appointed Chief Emeka Okafor as its chairman, the caucus also called for a security summit to address social issues such as menace of herdsmen, kidnapping and other threats facing the zone.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by Chief Emeka Okafor and 21 other members of the executive council, the caucus also called for devolution of power to the states as a way of achieving “true federalism in Nigeria.”
