Kaduna Killings: Coalition Blames El-Rufai
Irked by the continued killings in Southern Kaduna perpetuated by suspected herdsmen, a pro-democracy group, Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution (CDNDC), Wednesday, blamed Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration for failing to stop the “pogrom,” accusing him of alleged complicity.
The CDNDC accused the Kaduna State governor of behaving in a manner that suggests he has “a deep personal score to settle with the Southern Kaduna people and a sectional grouse against the Shiites.
In a statement by its Co-Convener, Ariyo-Dare Atoye, the group called for a national protest to draw global support for the endangered people and lands of Southern Kaduna.
It said the Buhari government has by the admittance of his spokesperson shown a lack of urgency and interest in coming to the rescue of the zone, while describing the statement of Femi Adesina as unfortunate.
The statement read: “As a matter of urgent global attention to stop the ongoing pogrom in Southern Kaduna, we wish to urge all God fearing Nigerians home and abroad to stand up for our brothers and sisters in that zone.
“As long as the lives of herds are not under threat, it is unlikely that this Buhari regime will give attention to the plight of these people, because we all saw the urgency with which an aide of the President was sent to Ekiti when cows were arrested.
“We have to draw the attention of the United Nations, the International Criminal Justice and the world at large to the pogrom being committed against a people whose hands have been tied by their own State government.
“It is unthinkable that the Kaduna government which would not allow the people of Southern Kaduna to explore all possible means to defend themselves, could imposed a curfew that gave their enemies loopholes to massacre more innocent persons during the yuletide.
“It is the worst human tragedy when a government that should ordinarily protect a people under threat is found complicit in the attacks against them by tying their hands behind them through a devilish curfew.
“By the grace of God, we will not only protest this evil, we will also ensure that Mallam Nasir Elrufai accounts for his deeds at home before a court and abroad at the International Criminal Court in Hague, no matter how long it takes.
“The attack against the people of Southern Kaduna, the Shiites and all peace-loving Nigerians is an attack against humanity, and we will not fold our hands and watch a people decimated by vampires and marauders.
“We will stand up for them, stand with them and stand by them no matter how long and the sacrifice.”
