Pep Guardiola to Unleash Iheanacho on Bayern

Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho seems set to play a key role in Manchester City’s 2016/2017 campaign as new manager Pep Guardiola plans to hand the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner a starting role in next week’s pre-season friendly against German giants, Bayern Munich.

It seems fitting that Pep Guardiola ’s first match in charge of City is against the club he left this summer having delivered three Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokals in three seasons.

Both teams will battle it out on Wednesday 20 July at the Allianz Arena, Munich after which the English side will proceed to china for the International Champions Cup, where they are due to meet Manchester United at the Bird’s Nest, Beijing on Monday, July 25,, Borussia Dortmund in Shenzhen on Friday July 28 and Arsenal on Sunday, August 7 at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg.

Guardiola began taking training sessions with his new players just over a week ago, with 13 academy stars supplementing the first-team squad each day last week and more of them joining since.

Guardiola has made it clear he wants to give the club’s best young players a chance to prove themselves – and he won’t have a better opportunity than by playing some of them against Bayern while his more senior stars recover from their international exertions.

The likes of Angus Gunn, Tosin Adarabioyo, Pablo Maffeo and Cameron Humphreys could be given a platform to showcase their ability in the absence of City’s international players.

According to a report in Manchester Evening News, Iheanacho is set to complement Wilfred Bony and Jesus Navas in the attack while the likes of Fernandinho, Fernando and Delph will operate in the midfiled.

Clichy will lead City’s defensive quartet comprising Adarabioyo, Maffeo and Humphreys as Guardiola attempts to start his City campaign with a morale-boosting victory.
