Crises Rock Enugu APC Chapter

The Enugu State Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Anike Nwoga, has described the state Chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye as a “square peg in a round hole,” adding that APC would suffer embarrassing defeat by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state in 2019 if he was not removed to pave the way for the re-organisation of the party.

Nwoga spoke while reacting to Nwoye’s allegations yesterday that the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Chief Osita Okechukwu, had been using his name (Nwoga) to write frivolous press releases attacking members of the party and other indigenous people of the state, describing the VON boss as a “gossip terrorist.”

According to Nwoye, Nwoga could not have issued such a statement condemning the defection of Senator Jim Nwobodo to the APC, because of his alleged poor grasp of issues.

The APC, had, Sunday, affirmed “a vote of no confidence” reportedly passed on the Vice Chairman by the Enugu East Senatorial Zone of the party for among other things, opposing the entry of the former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Nwobodo, into the party. Nwoga had described Nwobodo as a liability instead of blessing to the party.

The APC Chairman further stressed that the offences for which Nwoga was suspended was committed in May this year, pointing out that it had nothing to do with his criticisms of the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu for writing letters to the international community over his trial with the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki for alleged forgery.

However, reacting, Nwoga dismissed allegations of anti-party activities against him, pointing out that he was being victimised for not supporting the ruling PDP in the state like Dr. Nwoye and his cohorts.

“APC is a political party but in Enugu State, it is being run like a limited liability company. The APC in Enugu State has three directors namely, Chief Ben Nwoye; the former gubernatorial candidate of the party, Chief Okey Ezea and the National Vice Chairman in the South East, Chief Emma Eneukwu. These three people are working for the PDP. Our party can never win election in Enugu in 2019 with Nwoye as chairman.

“A visitor to the APC’s secretariat in Enugu will understand what I am saying. It does not look like an office of a serious and major opposition party. The office has no falg; it has not sign board to show what it is… Nwoye is not serious,” Nwoga added.
